Install Device Driver for STM Firmware Update
1. Introduction
This article will show you how to install the device driver "STM Device in DFU Mode" used for updating the UVC ESC firmware. Sometimes when using the KDE Direct PC Software, you will get an error message "DFU Device not found". This typically occurs because Windows is using the incorrect device driver.
2. Preparation
Application: DfuSe_Demo_V3.0.6_Setup.exe
This application redistributes the software provided by STMicroelectronics.
Please download here
Run "DfuSe_Demo_V3.0.6_Setup.exe" to install the driver.
Please keep in mind the installation folder displayed on the screen.
After the installation is complete, the DfuSe Demo (v3.0.6) screen will appear. Click the "Quit" button to exit.
3. Device Driver Install
3.1) Connect the UVC ESC to Windows PC with a micro USB cable.
(don't connect a LiPo battery, the ESC is powered via the USB cable)
Start the KDE Direct Device Manger and click the Repair Mode checkbox.
This will put the ESC into DFU mode and the red LED will turn off.
3.2) Open the Device Manager by pressing [Windows] key + [X] key, click "Device Manager" to start it.
3.3) Search for the missing driver in "Other devices" or
"Universal Serial Bus controllers". The driver may appear as STM32 Bootloader, DFU in FS mode, Unknown USB Device, etc.
3.4) Select the incorrect driver (SMT32 BOOTLOADER, DFU in FS mode, or Unknown USB Device) in Device Manager, and click "Update Driver" from the menu displayed by right-clicking the mouse.
3.5) When the driver update screen is displayed, select "Browse my computer for drivers".
3.6) Specify the installation folder set in step 2.
Normally, it will be in the following folder:
"C:\Program Files(x86)\STMicroelectronics\Software\DfuSe v3.0.6" or
"C:\Program Files\KDEUpdate\Driver"
Check "Include subfolders", and click the "Next" button.
When the driver installation is complete, the screen "Windows has successfully updated your drivers" is displayed.
4) Update the ESC firmware
You can now Start the KDE Direct Device Manger and proceed to update the ESC firmware normally.
